I have been meaning to follow up my first "playlist" blog post from a while back (which you can read here) for a while now. My initial concept for this was a "mood board" where I would have playlist(s) for various states of being, with small blurbs about further nuances of the songs that make me feel that way. I eventually compiling this together too complex and heavy for an entry in what this very site's archive calls the "silly" table.
The desire for an additional "playlist" continued without an outlet until a recent apartment hunting trip with Sirius XM's Grateful Dead channel as the BGM hit on "Touch of Grey", "Cats Under The Stars", and "Playing in the Band" about as often as a standard classic rock station would. These tracks are linked by lyricism strong enough that I will sing along if in the mood. Thus was the genesis of the idea for this playlist, grouping songs that I would like to go "bar for bar" (singing along with every line) whenever applicable.
Deciding to pursue this is quite fitting. Not only does the emphasis on lyricism compliment the previous playlist's focus on overall musicality lending to improvisation, I also get to comment on (or categorize) individual tracks' suitability for use in karaoke, the most common environment for people going "bar for bar". Beyond all of this, a wide range of human emotions are touched on in a way that the original mood board concept could.
Now, let's go group by group. I hope this offers an additional insight into what I value in the music I listen to, just like the last playlist did.
